On Tuesday, February 21, 2012, shortly after 2:00 p.m., members of the Brantford Police Service Street Crimes Unit and patrol officers in marked police vehicles approached a suspect vehicle on the parking lot at 325 West Street. An interaction took place between the officers and the male driver. A female passenger suffered injuries as the vehicle attempted to flee the parking lot. An officer then discharged his firearm at the vehicle as it drove at him while fleeing the scene.

The man drove the vehicle to a nearby business and then fled on foot into a wooded area. A short time later after a brief foot pursuit, the man was taken into custody without incident on a parking lot located at Charring Cross Street and West Street.

No one was injured as a result of the officer discharging his firearm; however, the SIU was contacted to probe the circumstances of the female’s injuries.

As a result of the ongoing police investigation, the Street Crimes Unit, assisted by the Brantford Police Emergency Response Team, executed a search warrant at the man and woman’s residence on Charring Cross Street near West Street.

The driver, a 25-year-old Brantford man faces numerous criminal charges.

The 22-year-old female passenger also faces criminal charges.

Both will be held in custody for a bail hearing.

Media inquiries are being directed to the Special Investigations Unit.
