A Dresden historic site is marking the 1834 emancipation of slaves across the British empire, including in the Canadian colonies.

Anniversary festivities are planned today at the Uncle Tom's Cabin Historic Site.

The site commemorates the life of a former slave who escaped to Canada via the Underground Railroad.
