London woman survives bear attack in Montana

E-mail Print PDF
grizzly bearMontana wildlife officials think they have the bear involved in a deadly campground attack at Yellowstone National Park.
The female grizzly and two of her cubs were trapped and caught last night.
Deb Freele of London survived the bear attack by playing dead.
Freele says she initially screamed when a bear was biting her arm in the middle of the night -- and that just made the animal bite harder.
So, she decided to go limp and the bear left her alone.
A man who was attacked in his tent did not survive.
A teenaged boy was bitten on the leg after trying in vain to fight off the bear by punching it in the nose.
Park officials say the mother bear will be killed.
They have yet to determine the fate of her cubs.  (jlw)
