Testing of a fire pump and sprinkler system last night, in London went very wrong.
Just before 11 last night, at the building on King Street, a 6" pipe above the 28th floor burst. Water was cascading down the stairwells when the fire department arrived.
There was extensive water damage in several units, from the 28th down to the 24th floor and the 3 elevators were put out of action.
Fire crews had a tough time moving equipment and manpower to the upper floors. They had no elevators and the stairs were running with water. It took about 10 hours to restore the sprinkler system. The elevators will be out of service for a day and a half while they get inspected. Damage is estimated at five million dollars. No injuries were reported.
