Former Tillsonburg resident and Calgary Flames part-owner Harley Hotchkiss has died.

The team confirmed the 83-year-old Hotchkiss, who had been battling prostate cancer, died Wednesday.

Hotchkiss was part of the group that bought the Atlanta Flames and moved them to Calgary in 1980.

Hotchkiss, who served as chairman of the NHL's board of governors from 1995 to 2007, sold his minority stake in the Flames this season.

He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2006.

Hotchkiss was also named as a companion of the Order of Canada.

He was also made a Tillsonburg Favourite Son at a recent ceremony at Town Hall.
