The compass is described as having a grey base with black top with "Type P4" and No 28822B" in white lettering on the black outer ring.
On the grey base is a brass plate engraved with a crown and the words "A.M. Ref No. 6A/0.227".
The compass is approximately. 6.5 inches in diameter.
It was kept in a grey wooden box approximately 9x9 inches with white stencilled lettering on the front lid saying “TYPE P10".
Also on the front of the box was red stencilled lettering saying "DELICATE INSTRUMENT TO BE HANDLED WITH GREAT CARE".
